The Law of Conservation

What used to hurt most
Was to know I'm so far removed
From my Origin.
I kept looking for something
In the images of the depths of what is known.
They say,
"How old this light is,
"Peering billions of years into the past!"
Well by good God,
How old am I!?
My parts and pieces,
And yours too,
We aren't new!
I teach the Law of Conservation:
Matter is neither created,
Nor destroyed,
And we are as old as the universe!

You must know, Love,
Our cells are constant anew.
My water leaks. So does yours.
All our little parts and pieces
Constantly replaced.
As much as I try
To hold you together
We're ever-changing.
Not "new," Love,"
Recycled! But I know
I've seen you somewhere else before
In the way back of time.
So if it's not your matter that I recognize
It must be your soul.

What feels best
Is to speak into your eyes,
Wordless, My Love,
And know that in the Beginning
You and I were nestled together.
Our particles may have been torn apart
By a bang,
But we've made our way back
Into each others arms.
Conserved.

You prove to me what is true
Every day.
This must be what it means
To be blessed:
To not have to keep peering into the past
Trying to see where it all started,
But only to rest, quiet and close,
In your arms,
The same that had held me so long ago
The same that will hold me
In the End.
So the Law of Conservation really says this:
"All things part of one Whole."
And through Love we show them all
What it is they're looking for.
