there must be light

You showed up

Here, in the dark
I dimmed the light
And asked, "how is it?"
You responded
As the very dark itself:
"there is no light"
I dimmed it more
"None?" I asked
And you said "nay."
We sat then, together
Minutes into millennia
Where it is darkest
Waiting.
"And now?" I asked.

"Truly.  There is light!"  And we wept.
For if we see at all, there must be light.
