I was so excited to see you again
To feel you
I was expectant, desperate
For it to be just like
it was before
I opened you
in the half light
And you felt so different
Slick and foreign and
like I'd never been there before
I read and read and read
for where I'd left off.
There were no marks
I scanned the pages, the cover
My heart, for residues
And it seemed familiar for a moment
but too much time
time
had passed and we grew
bifurcated
after two separate teleos
my god,
we broke what we had
O break, bleak surf,
upon this wreckage
and wash
wash
the memories of your Work away

you didn't stop
to think
what if
what if you, my man
bore a vagina
what if ?
what if you, sir
were born in
a "shit-hole country"
what then?
what then of your thick hate
survives? all you know
is to like you...or is it?
deep down, it's
validation.
belonging.
you know what you are
(you hate you)
so you hate me
I'll hate back
(I'll hate me for it)
you chased tail
and didn't get any
you did school
rather, it did you
and now you thought you
could carve out a little
cave of toys
and play pretend
you're the king who knows and rules
mommy's little man
all growed up
little man
lets fix that tie
around your neck

Drove past you the other day
You looked dead.
Slouched in your seat
Your Miata
And I felt nothing
But here I am writing about it
instead of calling you
to ask about it
Because I take these things for Me.
I wear your pain, and can't bother
to thank you for it.
Voyeur...
vampire
not so different from everyone else
who's waiting and watching for it all
to just...
*poof*

The very written-ness of the words
Cannot be overcome
Would then we both be caged.
Silence it is, then
Left as pure potential.
And it is like dying, dying
Over and again, to watch idly
As nothing comes of us

it is incredible
in the
worst
way
to feel so much
and say so little
it feels a little like
going extinct

Would you, should you be
Surprised that thing
Asked first: What am I?
(Fire will bring fire
Light will bring light
Darkness demanded them both)
What responsibility
Does the Creator now have
To answer this question?
(It is no longer
The Creator's response
That matters most)
But. The consequences...
(A mind can and will
Make the meaning that matters
Most to it.)

You showed up
Here, in the dark
I dimmed the light
And asked, "how is it?"
You responded
As the very dark itself:
"there is no light"
I dimmed it more
"None?" I asked
And you said "nay."
We sat then, together
Minutes into millennia
Where it is darkest
Waiting.
"And now?" I asked.
"Truly. There is light!" And we wept.
For if we see at all, there must be light.
